Wine Blog: Matrot Monthelie Rouge 2014

Tasting Notes (6.11.2018)
Rating: 7/10

A light bodied red wine. Dry in the beginning but subtle sweetness after it breathes. Tastes of cranberry and very sweet aroma of red fruits and rose. Possibly better with a light meal. Overall a pretty balanced red light red. I can totally see pairing this with a thick, dry aged, bone-in ribeye with an herbed butter. Burgundy – although enjoyable, I still prefer a Cabernet Sauvignon. But I actually like this better than the Côte de Nuits Villages Burgundy.

Decant Time: 30 minutes

Appearance (clarity):  a really translucent light garnet with legs that speed up.

Nose: Apples, cranberry and red fruits, rose, cola and red licorice

Taste:  Light bodied, light red wine. Not sweet, not acidic and barely any tannins. Green grapes in the beginning that fades after 30 minutes of decanting. Medium finish. Medium dry as well. Since this is a medium all around – pretty balanced wine. There is a subtle sweetness after it breaths. Almost like a cranberry juice without any sugar. Hell, I wonder if I mix vodka and lime with this it would make a killer Cosmopolitan!  Definitely something to pair with a light dish. Maybe chicken.

Scenario:  After 6 hours of back to back meetings, a dentist cleaning, a 3pm lunch, and a 2 hour power nap – finally get to sit down and enjoy this wine. The contractors are 80% done with my interior walls and the house smells of fresh paint. Japanese House is on the playlist. I'm not sure if I will have dinner tonight. This  may be it.

Professional Review
Burghound: “(this is mostly from very old vines situated in Les Hauts Brins that have approximately 20% Pinot Beurot interspersed with the Pinot vines); A riper and more complex (if less complex nose) features notes of dark Pinot fruit, spice and plenty of earth influence. The old vines definitely are in evidence as the seductively textured middle weight flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration as well as good volume and detail on the moderately firm, balanced and long finish. This is really quite good for its level and would make another excellent choice for an all-around house red. 2019+. Outstanding/Top Value. 89pts”

Wine Blog: Pierre Meurgey Côte de Nuits Villages "Aux Montagnes" 2015

Tasting Notes (6.11.2018)   Rating: 6/10   Note that this is the wine that broke my proverbial Burgundy Cherry, so I have nothing to compare this to, but first impressions is a very dry, tannic, light bodied red wine. "Sucking on a cinnamon stick without the cinnamon bite" is the one phrase that sticks with me.   I can totally see pairing this with a thick, dry aged, bone-in ribeye with an herbed butter. Wine Blog: Enclos de Viaud Lalande de Pomerol 2015

Tasting Notes (6.17.2018)    Rating: 6/10   I got burnt out on Merlots. This is a good wine if you like them, but for personal taste I gave it a 6. The black cherry tartness stands out but there is sweetness behind all of that. This is a  well-balanced,  medium red full bodied wine. I suggest with spicy greasy heavy meals.  I can totally see pairing this with a thick, dry aged, bone-in ribeye with an herbed butter.    Summary   Winery   Enclos  de  Viaud   Vintage   2015   Region   Bordeaux   Subregion   Libournais   Appellation   Lalande de  Pomerol   Regional styles   Bordeaux  Pomerol   Vineyard   Aux Montagnes   Food pairing   Beef  · Game(deer, venison) · V eal  ·  Poultry   Cost   ...
